2019 Center for Discipleship

A dream: To have a discipleship school. We took the first step in this journey in July of 2019. For four weeks, we piloted a discipleship program out of the Peachtree City AC church & our home.

It was an amazing journey! We were blessed far more than we expected or anticipated.

We started each morning at 5:30am in our living room with an hour of prayer. With coffee cups in hand, we poured out our hearts before the Lord and each other. For many of us, this was the most precious part of the day.

After morning prayer, we had a time of individual prayer and study.

After that study time, we shared breakfast, then a time of exercise as a group (usually a morning run/walk). We went individual ways to shower/change and then met back up at the church at 10:00am for worship and the morning teaching.

Afternoons held a few different activities. We volunteered at a food bank and orchard a few times, did some yard work, and sometimes would just stay around the church and do cleaning there. Our goal in the afternoon hours was to do ordinary tasks in the presence of Jesus and learn to find Him in the mundane.

On Thursday evenings, we had "community night." We invited neighbors and friends into our home with the goal of practicing gospel-centered hospitality. We did a cookout every week so the food was very low-stress and our focus could be on people and relationships. At first, it was just our group, but over time more neighbors and friends came.

Each Saturday, we had a different focus - fasting, evangelism, or enjoying God through his creation. For the week we practiced seeing God in creation, we went to Arabia mountain - breathtakingly beautiful!

One of the students who came to attend was my dear friend, Madi, from Peoria. She lived with us for the four weeks! Our guest bedroom still feels like "Madi's room" to me. I miss her so much! She brought so much joy into our home. Here we are with some beet pizza - she inspired us to develop a love for all things involving beets, kombucha, and quinoa.

The last day of the program, we practiced celebration! We went out for sushi that night - not everyone was able to make it, but it was such a sweet way to wrap up the program.

We praise God for revealing His heart to us and all those in the program more through this program this past July. We are excited for next summer and to continue seeking Him through this journey!
