Chicago, Illinois

In February, Ike had a three day weekend for President's day, so we snuck away to Chicago for a time of rest!

It was snowing when we arrived. Somehow being in Chicago made the snow feel much more beautiful and romantic!

That first evening, we found a well-rated pizza place on Yelp and walked a few blocks down the magnificent mile to the base of the Trump tower. A cold, but very gorgeous walk - all the city lights!

The pizza place (Bongiorno's Cucina) proved to be much harder to find than expected! We searched and searched until we realized that had been walking right past the building it was in! It was tucked away - Truly, a hole in the wall (very unexpected for being within yards of Trump Tower!) Very authentically Italian and just delicious.

The next morning, we headed to the Field Museum - it has free admission to Illinois residents for the month of February! We browsed through the exhibits for a good part of the morning - it was lovely!

We stopped for a hot dog just outside of the museum :)

The afternoon of that day was a highlight of the weekend for me - we wondered through the city, out of the museum district and back towards Michigan avenue, just exploring and people watching. :) When we walked by the Chicago Public Library, immediately decided -  "ooh, that sounds perfect! Let's go in!" & picked out a random book to sit down & read for awhile. I found a novel set in Paris which sent my heart back to many sweet memories of our time there last summer.

The architecture in the library was stunning!

Eventually, we found our way to the Allis for "afternoon tea." I had heard about this unique place and told Isaac that I would love to visit someday! He researched it & made reservations and I'm so glad he did - it was totally packed!

This place was amazing. We loved every moment of it.

We shared a tea tier - everything was delicious. And actually way more filling than we expected!

On Monday morning, before heading home, we went to a small café/coffee shop for breakfast and coffee. It was another golden find that we would love to return on a future trip to Chicago. Good coffee, simple/good quality food, and so cozy. Actually, it was a bottom floor of a hostel! Definitely had a hippie vibe -  in the best -makes me want to be a hippie-way :)

I wished that I had my laptop along and could just sit and study for hours - all the seating felt like a cozy basement.

The weekend was over before we knew it and we were both back to the race of trying to balance school against the rest of our lives. We were grateful for the time of rest to enjoy the life we have been given and the companionship of exploring together.
